We are delighted that you have chosen the Melissa Nemetz School of Dance for the dance education of your son/daughter. Your confidence and trust are most appreciated and your concern for the highest educational standards inspires us to offer the most innovative and beneficial curriculum available. On behalf of The Melissa Nemetz School of Dance, its staff, and myself, I would like to take this opportunity to extend a warm ‘welcome’ to each of you. It is our goal at MNSOD to provide a class where the student experiences a positive introduction to the art of dance. They learn to appreciate the success of commitment and dedication, while advancing their dance skills. The dancers then have the opportunity to take part in performances showcasing their accomplishments. We feel that this atmosphere helps to create a sense of selfâesteem and discipline. The dancer enjoys the process of progress and can share that enjoyment with others through their performances. That is their time to shine!

New to dance classes and trying to decide between studios?
Listed below are 4 main differences that set us apart from the rest:
1. B.A. in Dance ~ Director
Melissa Nemetz Costa ~Director of MNSOD has a B.A. in Dance from Point Park University, one of the foremost dance programs in the United States. Many dance studios instruct by ‘showing’ their students’ technique and skills having the dancers emulate - not learn and fully understand the movement. We ‘teach’ movements using explanations referencing different muscle groups, how they work together, and initiation of movement, spacial relationships and many other aspects that ‘teach’ the dancer the movements. Melissa Nemetz Costa was ‘taught’ how to teach through pedagogy classes and child psychology courses in college ~passing the knowledge onto to her staff. This is the core from which the studio excels.
2. Most Value for Your Money:
In today’s economy it is most important to get the most value for your dollar. Prices are on the rise everywhere you turn and consumers are searching to stretch their money as far as possible. Some studios have no regard for their ‘parental expenses’ and believe an open checkbook is the answer. Purchasing separate costumes for each recital dance adds up quickly. We believe it is unnecessary to have parents pay extensively when costume companies offer ‘two-in-one’ costumes. We utilize these and in fact, our preschool and kinder tuition includes the recital costume. When it is time to order recital costumes…these parents only submit a size for the costume-no checks-no credit cards! In addition, passionate dance students sometimes wish to add a second weekly ballet class to their education. We do not charge additional fees for this~in fact we encourage it! We would never want to diminish the desire to be better.
Also, our preschool and kinder classes are kept to a minimum of 10 students to make sure these littlest of dancers receive adequate attention and love. Consequently here at MNSOD, we give the fairest, most affordable quality dance instruction to make sure families get value for their dollar.
3. Your Time is important to us too:
When we put our schedule together, we try to keep it as ‘easy’ on the parents as possible. Some studios hold all jazz classes on one evening and then have all of the ballet classes the next. We use age groups to group the classes, saving countless trips to the studio. This way, potentially all of their classes can be on the same evening. Also one great feature is our time based dress rehearsal in May. May is a very busy month with concerts, communions, end of school year projects due, etc… Most studios tell dancers to be at the rehearsal at start time and stay until their the end~ which can be 6 or seven hours. This makes for a very long evening with tired children and stressed parents. We have found a way to make the rehearsal less stressful…we give each ‘dance’ on stage a report time. Dancers know when they will be on stage and when they will be completed because there is a tight schedule. Instead of a 6 or 7-hour investment, we ask for generally an hour. When the dancer becomes involved in dance, they are participating in more dances and the time they are required at the rehearsal is more, but at that point, they are old enough to handle the time, and watch and enjoy the other classes.
4. We are easy to ‘get along with’:
When someone new to the dance world thinks of dance revues and dress rehearsals they think of the horror stories they have heard from friends and relatives. Come to our studio and we put those stories to rest. If they have watched an episode of ‘Dance Moms’ they vow to never put their dancer in a studio like that. (We could never be on an episode of Dance moms!) We are a non-competitive studio so there is no staged competition between dancers. They are supportive of each other, help each other, and are able to try hard enough to let themselves make a mistake. This is how dancers learn. Our staff is always available before and after class or via email 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to assist in any questions you may have. We want to make your experience with MNSOD a pleasant one.
